On Tuesday, November 22nd AK had a Thanksgiving feast. We had turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, carrots, cranberries, stuffing, and hot chocolate pudding with cool whip for dessert. The students were very excited and ate very well. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

AK's Leaf Project
On Monday we took a leaf walk to find our perfect leaf/leaves for our Leaf Man/Boy/Girl/Pet. This is a language experience activity where the students dictate words or sentences about their creation and we write down what they say. Students can usually recall what they said while “reading” it after we hang the picture in the hall. Reading and writing are connected because the students are actively involved in reading what they have written.
Preschool Fall Walk
Today we went on a fall walk to pick up leaves to use for our fall pictures we will be making on Thursday and Friday. The students had to practice listening skills, safety (with walking on sidewalks not in street), and got to enjoy a very nice fall morning! It was so fun to connect with the book we read yesterday, The Falling Leaves. In the story the leaves are bragging to each other about how creatively they will fall from the trees. They make some bad choices and end up hurting the feelings of another leaf and make her cry. This leaf, Yellow Hickory, is the only one that takes a graceful and acrobatic fall and lands in a blue lake. The wind does not cooperate with the others and they land in a mud puddle. We got to see the wind in action today as the leaves were flipping, twisting, doing loop de loops, and spinning like a ballerina.

During free choice time students work on social skills, decision making, clean up, and many other academic skills. With the small numbers in AK (usually around 12 students) students have plenty of room and opportunity to enhance skills.
Preschool Table Time
We work on decision-making and social skills at table time. When your child is done writing his/her name then he/she can choose from a variety of manipulatives, books, or puzzles to work with at his/her table spot. New items can be chosen, but clean up needs to happen first.
